Pioneers Drop First Game of Season

GALLATIN, TENNESSEE — Game one at home for men's basketball team is tonight 7 p.m. Coming into the game this evening the Pioneers dropped game one on the season at Snead State with a score of 92-71.

George Stanberry was taken out of the game against Snead after landing on his tailbone.  Head coach Rusty Melvin was able to play most of his bench that game after Stanberry went down.

"I got hurt and it would've been a different outcome if I hadn't have.  For the next two games, I need smarter shot selection and help my team out by being more involved and in tune with the game," Stanberry said.

"George isn't going to miss a game.  He would miss anything but basketball.  I expect him here tonight," Melvin said.

Stats against Snead State

Post, Kevin Rimmer finished the game with 15 points and went 7-16 in shooting for playing his first game as a sophomore this year.  Playing 10 minutes before being taken out of the contest Stanberry topped off his night with 10 points.  Coming off the bench in a relief effort freshman Tim Goodrich shot 100 percent from everywhere to end the game.

Next game

"There were too many breakaways.  First thing tonight is to correct the transition defense.  We ran our half-court offense; we just didn't make any shots.  We can't give up ninety to a team," said Melvin.

Bethel University JV is the opponent tonight for the Pioneers.  No team practice will be in between the next two games as the Pioneers will head up to Indiana to face Vincennes University tomorrow night at 6 p.m. Central Standard Time.
