Conference Games Loom

Conference Games Loom

By: Nick Kieser

GALLATIN, TENNESSEE — For the Volunteer State Community College Pioneers (2-6) having a game has been absent from routine the past nine days due to having Thanksgiving break.

The end of a six-game home stand comes to a close tomorrow night when the Pioneers tip-off against the Elizabethtown Community College Barons at 7 p.m.

Aside from the game at hand tomorrow the Pioneers next three of four contests are conference games all of which are on the road.  The first opponent following Wednesday night's game is Motlow State Community College (4-5) and (2-0) in conference play thus far.

The message and goal for the Pioneers has been to be able to play and handle teams like Motlow State after playing ranked teams in the NJCAA.  Sitting in seventh place (1-1) in the conference the Pioneers have been optimistic that this record can soar over the other teams as long as the wins will pile up; that's the plan coming from the team.

Last time out for the Pioneers against the Barons (Jan. 22) it was a close game at halftime and ended up being 88-67 for a Pioneers victory.  Top scorers were Jabori Murphy (20) and George Stanberry (13).

Breaking into the December part of the schedule the Pioneers have their first-weekend road swing going to Chattanooga State and Cleveland State Community College Dec. 7-8.
