Pioneers Fall in a Shootout of a Game in Dyersburg

DYERSBURG, TENNESSEE — As the first road trip of 2019 neared its end, the Vol State Pioneers (4-12) stopped at Dyersburg State Community College (16-3) on Saturday (Jan.19) for the second half of the back-to-back games scheduled.

Dyersburg who is atop the conference in first place won this game at home 124-114 against the Pioneers who have yet to win on the road this season.

"We could have played harder and getting started has been a problem.  Not setting the pace, we let them set the pace instead of us," said Tim Goodrich about Saturday's loss at Dyersburg.

With the loss at hand, the Pioneers are in the midst of a two game losing streak since snapping the last one against Roane State on January 12.

"We didn't play hard in the first half.  We needed to pressure them and we didn't defend well at all.  We're going to work on that at practice," said Justin Goodson about the performance on the road.

Goodson who is a freshman had his best game in his career so far at Dyersburg dropping 30 points on the night.  Goodrich was right behind him that night dropping 27 points.

"I had a good game but at the end of the day, I wanted the win.  I'm not even worried about what I had.  We're going to step up and try to get this game next Saturday," said Goodson on his best performance thus far in his college career.

"Now we have played everyone in the league and now we know what to expect so there are no excuses.  We know how to beat everyone.  Most teams we've played will be in our house now," said Goodrich on what the plan is for playing more conference games.

Within the conference side, the Pioneers are (2-6) and look to add on to the win column as the rest of the season progresses and the conference tournament gets closer.  Nine games are left in the season and four of those games will be on the road.

Next up on the Pioneers schedule is Motlow State Community College.  Tip-off is Saturday in the Pickel Field House at 4 p.m.  Follow the team on Twitter @VSCCPioneersMBB for news and updates.
