By: Nick Kieser

GALLATIN, TENNESSEE — Tough games to swallow for Volunteer State Community College (5-16) as Walters State and Roane State swept the Pioneers over the weekend (Feb. 9-10). The losses make it two in a row for the Pioneers after splitting the week before.

On Friday (Feb.9) Walters State dropped 103 points on the night and the Pioneers totaled 83. At halftime, the Pioneers were down 46-38. The next half found the Senators outscoring the Pioneers 44-57 to win the game. Justin Goodson dropped a team-high 34 points and had 5-10 of his three-pointers go down.

For the second half of the road trip, the Pioneers traveled down to Roane State to tip-off against the Raiders. In a more intense scoring game, the Raiders walked away with the home win 84-81. Tim Goodrich totaled 18 points that evening and behind him was teammate Jabori Murphy with 17 points against the Raiders.

As far as foul shooting the Pioneers went 6-8 in the game. Four games remain on the schedule. The last two home games are this weekend and the last away games are the following week on Wednesday and Saturday.

Currently sitting in ninth place puts the Pioneers in position for the Play-in game against Jackson State for the postseason tournament berth.
