Pioneers Fall One Bucket Short

Pioneers Fall One Bucket Short

By: Nick Kieser

GALLATIN, TENNESSEE — The Vol State Pioneers had the annual Sophomore Night Saturday, February 16. Before the game against Dyersburg State, a ceremony was held where the sophomores on the team were awarded an action photograph of themselves and a photo together with the coaches.

Dyersburg and the Pioneers battled all evening long with the score seesawing between the conference teams. In the end, Dyersburg won 98-96 to spoil the sophomores last home game. Brian Price missed an opportunity to tie the game with one second left and the shot fell short after hitting the backboard.

Justin Goodson dropped 27 points on the night and behind him was teammate Chase Hawkins with 13 points to close the last game at Pickel Field House this regular season.

The Pioneers continue to ride the losing side of things now dropping four in a row. For the last two games of the year, the team travels to Columbia State on Wednesday and to Jackson State on Saturday.

Currently, the Pioneers sit in ninth place in the conference standings and would play Jackson State for the final playoff position if the season ended before the games this week.
