Men's Basketball 2019-20 Season Preview

The men's basketball 2019-20 team will be returning five players who played in all 28 games last year.  Plus, proven transfers will bolster the Vol State men's team this coming season.

All-TCCAA Academic players Heston King (Macon County) and George Roberson (Beech) are the returning posts.  Justin Goodson (Dacula, Georgia) is the leading scorer returning at 11.6 points.  Brian Price (Memphis School of Excellence) averaged 5.0 points per game; Jonathon Howard (Cane Ridge) averaged 3.0 points per game and redshirt David Smith (Cane Ridge) round out the returning players.

Three outstanding transfers – Jared Carter (White County High School), Trey Radcliffe (Concord West Virginia) and Austin Fisher (Cleveland State) are all Division I prospects that strengthen the guard game.

Freshmen for this year's team are Taras Carter (East Literature), Jared Ward (White House), Zack Morris (Hendersonville), Zack Bowden (Hunters Lane) and LaMarius Jackson (Murfreesboro Oakland).  Taras and LaMarius both played in the TSSAA State Tournament.

The schedule is tough with the first three games on the road against Wallace State CC (2017 National Tournament participant), Itawamba and Northeast Mississippi CC (2017 NJCAA participant).  Vol State's first home game is November 9 at 4:00 pm against Wallace State (Alabama).  Conference play begins at home on November 16 at 4:00 pm against Region VII Champions Cleveland State.  On Wednesday, November 20 at 7:30 pm conference opponent Dyersburg State comes to town.
