Pioneers Advance to Semi-Finals

COLUMBIA, TENNESSEE — The undefeated postseason Vol State Lady Pioneers have advanced to the NJCAA Region Seven Semi-Finals defeating Walters State 7-5. Peyton MacLeod came in relief to Madison Milton and picked up her second win of the season.

Game two the Pioneers were outscored 4-0 in the first two innings but thanks to Alex McFarlin and Hannah Marlar the Pioneers rallied to score three in the third inning.

"We don't put our heads down and we just stick with it and pick each other up if we don't get a hit. Keep going with the game and do not give up," said Marlar following the second win of the tournament.

McFarlin would single in the bottom of the fourth inning to score Sydney Cope and Kennedy Acklin to put the Pioneers up 6-5. The next at-bat Marlar scored Purvis and the Pioneers got the last run they'd need to advance to play Wednesday (May 8) at 10 a.m.

Chattanooga State Community College is the next opponent and thus far the Tigers have not allowed a run to score and defeated Roane State and Motlow State doing so. Chatt State has outscored their opposition 17-0 in tournament play so far.

"Personally I was a little more nervous to play Walters than Chatt. I feel like we can beat Chatt. Peyton played amazing today and redeemed herself from her last time against Walters," said Marlar.

The Pioneers are in a comfortable 2-0 lead in the tournament right now and after that Chatt State game, someone will be faced with elimination. Whichever team gets this win will advance to the finals and the time is still TBA.
