Lady Pioneer’s Tip-off Against Jackson State

By: Nick Kieser

GALLATIN, TENNESSEE — Coming into the fourth game of the year the Lady Pioneers (1-2) are still on the hunt for their first home win.  The second chance to do so at home is tomorrow night with the first conference opponent visiting.

The opposition for the game on Saturday at 4 p.m. is the second place team in the conference Jackson State Community College (2-0).  For the last two games out the Green Jays have scored 88 points. The first game was away against Cumberland University JV (88-59) and then home the second game versus Martin Methodist (88-45).  Before playing the Lady Pioneers tomorrow, the Green Jays visit Motlow State Community College.

As far as the points per game stats for the Lady Pioneers the top three leaders in scoring are Aliyah Miller (12), Shalaya Armstead (11), and Kelsey Harriman (8).  The top five scorers down the list add up close to 41 points per game.  According to assistant coach, Tony Thompson, Miller has been looked at by several division one schools who have shown interest.  As far as the interest, Miller will continue to play and mesh with her teammates.

Before heading out on the court tomorrow evening the Lady Pioneers can look back on last year's games against Jackson State to win the season series this time around.  Last year the season series was split at one apiece with game one in Jackson being an overtime loss (65-57 OTL) and the next game a win (77-69) at home for Lady Pioneers.

Once like before this season the Lady Pioneers will face Jackson State twice once on the road and once at home.  The next appearance versus Jackson State after the game Saturday will be the last game of the season in Jackson, Tennessee Feb. 23.

With rested players after Monday's loss, the sophomore players and new freshmen will go for their first win in Pickel Field House this season.
