Pioneers Lose Series to Cleveland State

Pioneers Lose Series to Cleveland State

The Pioneers took on Cleveland State in a home TCCAA series.  Game one was all Cleveland State as they jumped out to a 7-0 lead after one inning.  Josh Griffin led off the bottom of the first for Vol St with a home run to get the Pioneers on the board but that would be all the offense for the Pioneers as Cleveland went on to win 11-1.

In game two, a double by Jacob Burris put the Pioneers up 4-3.  A solo home run in the 6th by Caleb Hawkins extended the lead to 5-3 going into the final inning but the final frame saw Cleveland St score 3 unearned runs and steal a 6-5 win.  Nathan Rhodes had his first conference start and pitched well going 6 innings allowing 3 earned runs and striking out 5.

Game three saw the Pioneers fall behind 3-1 before scoring 8 runs in the second inning and 4 more over the next 2 to salvage the final game of the series by a score of 13-3. Camden Madding and Carter Vrabel both homered for Vol St.
