CLEVELAND, TENNESSEE — The Vol State Lady Pioneers have been defeated by Walters State Community College. To close up the 2018-19 season the Senators won 58-47 to knock the Pioneers out of the playoffs to close the season.

Defeating Dyersburg in the play-in game the Pioneers went on to play an undefeated conference team in Walters State on Saturday (March 2). Kelsey Harriman dropped 12 points for the team high in the last game. Behind her was Xavia Williams with 10 and Aliyah Miller with 9 points.

The final record for the Pioneers is 10-15 overall and 5-11 in conference games this 2018-19 season. Eight of the players on the team are sophomores and will move on from Vol State after graduating this spring semester. According to head coach Otis Key, many of the players were getting the attention of other programs that are four-year universities.

Four players are freshmen and will be returning for next season. One of which is Xavia Williams who was awarded All-Conference Second Team in her first year of playing collegiate basketball. Aliyah Miller was also a recipient of an award as well. Miller won All-Conference First Team in her final season wearing the Pioneer uniform.

No announcement has been made on where the sophomores will be going off to for next year. Coaches Otis Key and Tony Thompson have work to do before next season to get the necessary players on this basketball program.
